Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Races 2025

Welcome race fans! We invite you to a rare place where you can witness the most challenging sled dog race in the eastern United States.

We have organized high quality racing events designed for the enjoyment of mushers, spectators, and dog teams. All three Can-Am Crown races (the 250, 100, and 30 mile races) now have highly accessible starts on Fort Kent's Main Street and comfortably viewed finishes at Lonesome Pine ski lodge in Fort Kent. The Can-Am Crown 250 also has designated spectator points in the towns of Portage Lake and Allagash. For logistic and safety reasons, checkpoints west of Portage Lake and south of Allagash are closed to the public. Racing events in Fort Kent are planned to have maximum accessibility and visibility. There are no fees to view the races. Bring your camera!

Relax! As you visit our friendly towns along the way, you may want to pause for refreshment and talk with the local folks. Enjoy the easy pace of life and the helpful and friendly people. You'll find everything you need for a uniquely enjoyable experience.

Leave the World Behind

At some point in your travels you will realize that you have left the ordinary world behind. Watch out for moose! You are in north country now. When you get to Fort Kent you may begin to feel exhilarated by the beautiful scenery, the camaraderie of the people, the eagerness of the dog teams, and the anticipation of the imminent adventure.

Weekend Centerpiece

At 250 miles, Maine's Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Race is the longest and highest caliber race in the eastern United States. For the men and women who challenge themselves and their teams of dogs, it represents great adventure, accomplishments and reward. It is a course for experts and those moving up in the exciting sport of sled dog racing, with winners claiming their share of a $29,000 purse!

The Upper St. John Valley is a classic setting for the CAN-AM CROWN 250. The race course runs deep into the famous Allagash Wilderness region, a setting which embodies much of Maine's heritage and natural splendor.

Celebrate

Highlighting your visit to the St. John Valley, the Can-Am Crown organization arranges a festive dinner and awards ceremony after each racing event. Dress casually.

Safety Tips

Remember, all children love dogs, but not all dogs love children. Please don't allow children to approach the sled dog teams. Spectators must not take pets to the race sites. This is absolutely forbidden. Bring extra warm clothing just in case. Have fun!
